At a regional convention today....
by Nobodyspecial init really stands out to me just how phoney the bonds of forced brotherhood are.
the smiles are paper thin when they see each other in hotels.
the laughs forced.

In reply to the post of kairos, regarding the Cow Palace:
Been there and Candlestick a few times; however, . . .
in the late '60s, I believe it was, we attended the week-long convention at Kezar stadium, San Francisco, CA. Bone chilling fog penetrated our parka-clad bodies, ensconced in sleeping bags. As the saying goes, "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco." [not Mark Twain]
BTW, with service in the morning and programs starting in the afternoon and concluding at around 9:00 p.m., it was a week of very long days.

TERROR
by compound complex inpointless .
pointless and a waste of time (though it is 3 o'clock in the morning) to remain in bed when the energy expended in tossing and turning can be put to better use elsewhere.
better use when i can get my mind out of the gutter and the realms of depression and despair that cater so willingly to the man held captive in his nightly horizontal prison.. i am up, thrusting myself from the uselessness of too much sleep, too much recumbence, too much nothing.. it's a given there's a force directing me beyond voluntary reflexes.

Who is your favorite thinker pt 2.
by The Rebel inonce upon a time i started a thread who is your favorite thinker and got many responses.
however revisiting that thread i noted we were to modest to name ourselves or fellow posters.
i therefore think we are either complete idiots, or modesty aside we should now name names, and restrict our answers to posters on the board.. so who on this board is your favorite thinker and why?.

You're very welcome, dear millie210!
Leo and I had only a few but, nonetheless, pleasant exchanges, in particular the antique color photos of Russia.
Regards.

Good morning! If you look up the last of her threads, she wrote, as I recall, that she was moving on. Her departure was on a cheerful note. She is a cheerful soul!
Best.

I agree with the above choices.
It amazes me whence come the thoughts and expressive mode of expression of our forum thinkers. They wax on and on, so eloquently, with clever, insightful turns of phrase.
Personally, I feel and do not think too much. It's neither a conscious nor deliberate choice to be a non-thinker, a brainless wonder; I simply lack the cerebral mechanism to add one plus one and get two. Truly, I want to understand and apply what useful information my esteemed fellow posters do offer. I'm awed and odd, I guess.
Hats off to our thinkers!

Good morning, DT:
I remembered this from previous research, and, although possibly known to you already, you may find it interesting. There's always a term to describe everything literary, so it seems!
Best,
CoCo
Setting the story within the context of a multiverse allowed me to leave the existing mythology of Sparlock mostly unchanged while presenting dramatic events in a parallel world that expand upon those themes. However, the multiverse isn't just a plot device. The idea of traveling to other realms or worlds is integral to many of the myths and legends that appear in the novel.
RETCONnoun- 1.(in a film, television series, or other fictional work) a piece of new information that imposes a different interpretation on previously described events, typically used to facilitate a dramatic plot shift or account for an inconsistency."we're given a retcon for Wilf's absence from Donna's wedding in ‘The Runaway Bride’: he had Spanish Flu"
verb- 1.revise (an aspect of a fictional work) retrospectively, typically by introducing a piece of new information that imposes a different interpretation on previously described events."I think fans get more upset when characters act blatantly out of established type, or when things get retconned"

How do you deal with depression?
by BlackWolf ini'm currently going through a bout of depression and my eating disorder has gotten worse.
ever since my parents actually told me that they are going to kick me out when i turn 18 i've felt kind of hopeless about my life.
my parents won't take me to the doctor because the psychiatrists won't have my "best interests" aka jw crap in mind, because really that's the root of all my problems.. i'm wondering if any of you guys have any advice with dealing with depression?

Dear BlackWolf:
I hope you will hang in there. Many here have responded with love and encouragement.
My spouse and I were fanatical and unreasonable with our teenager. When it came to our child doing self-harm, we snapped out of our cult mode and said, "You don't have to be a Witness, just obey the house rules. You don't have to go to the KH anymore." The rebellion stopped and peace and love came into our home.
Well, that action on our part didn't please the powers that be. But we saved our child and have a wonderful relationship still, 30 years later.
Hope this helps, though it's from a different vantage point.
Love, from a grateful father,

So Are Inactives officially SHUNNED?

Refusal to associate with certain people works both ways, within or without religious affiliation.
Brother Knorr told us Bethelites that we should avoid bad association even at Bethel . . . Seems as though something went amiss during the original screening process.

This Thing That Was My Mother
by TimeBandit inthis thing that was my mother.
this thing that was my mother, so withered and blackened now,.
was once so kind and loving, but things have changed somehow.. remember when you'd hold me, and soothe my childhood fears?.

Thank you, TimeBandit, for sharing this. Beautifully expressed.
Sad poetry, for the time being, is perfectly all right. Been there myself. I'm somewhat more detached from the pain of the past. You'll find a way to deal with it, as many of us have. Of course, in this, the present, we still must confront the reality of WT policies and their hold on our loved ones.
Kind regards.
